Monogamous Writing

I have a confession to make. I wrote something, for the second week in a row, for the FaithWriters Challenge, and I’m not submitting it. Why? Because they’re just ho-hum. Neither piece has been something I was particularly proud to have my name stuck on- so, they sit, in my file folder, unaware that they’ll never be submitted.

It dawned on me tonight that the reason I can’t seem to follow through with these submissions, is because I am a monogamous writer. (Serially monogamous, to clarify.)

I can’t write multiple things at once, and right now, I’m working on my novel. So that’s it for me. I can’t go off and have these trysts with the Challenge because then my novel-writing suffers and my challenge pieces stink. And who wants that? I mean, I guess it’d be something if these rendezvous with the Challenge were riveting, but ho-hum? Eh. Spare us, right?

So it is with a heavy heart that I write to say, until I’m satisfied w/ my first full round of novel-edit & polish, all else is on hold. FaithWriter friends, you won't see me 'round the Challenges for a while. I can't even promise to heap gold boxes of accolades and constructive critique on others. I can't even promise to be active on the forums. (Okay, now that makes me sad.)

I’m curious to know how others of you manage to pull off your writing infidelities successfully. Are you able to juggle several writing tasks and do them all well?

If you've got tips, let me know. I'd love to figure out how to avoid these difficult choices.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I can totally relate and SO appreciate all the above! The best part? It's okay to go full speed ahead on one endeavor and let the other one ride along in the slow lane for awhile. We're writers. We create WHAT we can WHEN we can. That's what we do. Good for you, Lynn :)

You'll still be sneaking out a night for a little "blogging" won't ya?

I can't do double or triple duty, either. I can barely keep up the blog, which takes much more time than I anticipated. As soon as Nano starts, I'll disappear, also. It's sad:( I only have a few days left on my current tryst.

I generally can't multitask very well either, but I'm getting better. I need to have some time apart between them(like work on a novel in the morning and then do challenge stuff in the evening), and sometimes I can manage it. Praying for you!
