Today, I spent a luscious few hours savoring tasty chunks of novel editing. I have some new inspiration to dig into it and it feels good.
Inspiration one came in the form of some unexpected e-mail conversations with Paula B of The Writing Show. It was so nice to have someone who interviews so many people about their books and writing careers, ask me what I'm working on. It just amazed me that she took time to write me back- and she doesn't know me from Eve, but this is what she does, she takes interest and that mere interest encourages. So thanks, Paula B.
Inspiration two came in a timely e-mail from Writer's Digest. They have a Editor's Intensive workshop in September. If you sign up early enough (still deciding whether to do it or not) you get 30 minutes with an editor who will look at 50 pages of your manuscript and tell you what's working or not. That is gold, to me. I just don't know if I'd be eaten alive if I were to attend. They don't even promote it as slightly encouraging- the tag line is something like find out what stinks about your book and why it's not selling. I'm hoping they'd be more tactful than that, but maybe it's precisely why I shouldn't go. We'll see. My husband is open to me going, but it is another chunk of money not generated by my writing.
I plan on checking into some of the grants/contests suggested on fundsforwriters.com, but until now, I haven't had time to sift through ways to bring income through writing.
I'm off to bed, it's late, but I wanted to check in and say I've jumped off the procrastinator's wagon, and now that all my regularly-watched tv shows are done for the summer- I have more time to work.
