Just as I suspected...Track Changes - One Editor's POV

I've long suspected that having one's book picked up by an editor or an agent, was merely the beginning of a long journey. It feels akin to the baby just being born. Sure, you've had a long gestation with your baby and know how it feels to have it rolling around inside you. You've giggled to yourself over the secrets of your baby that only you and God know. You might even have had a peek at your baby (playing around with book cover ideas), maybe you even know its gender (mine's a girl). In fact, this baby has been with you so long now, you're sure you'll never fit back into your pre-novelling habits again, and you've got the literary stretch marks to prove it. But there's nothing that prepares you for what's coming. You can do your homework, get all those rubber duckies lined up. Read all there is to know on writing good fiction, edit the daylights out of your book (actually, probably not a good idea- might leave your story too dark), make sure you've got your Market Guide cross-referenced, your Excel spreadsheets prepped to track your MS, and maybe you've even cleaned off your desk (try not to go overboard, you don't need a new desk, the old one will work just fine) so that you can focus on the next step. But come delivery day, which takes effort like none other, it is truly just the beginning. So, ah, thanks Ramona Richards for confirming my worst fea---, er, um, my best joys. Yay. Can't wait for the big day to finally arrive. I think.

Oh, and- it's a good article. I am sort of looking forward to part 2.
