The crackle of a whip

I'm not sure how many workshops I sat through before I heard the familiar crackle of the writing whip, but this *writer* (sounds like rider? if you can't chuckle, can you at least groan at my punny joke?) is glad to have heard it.

I returned home Sunday after attending the FaithWriters Writing Conference (number 3, though I've only attended 2) and wow oh wow. My fingers and creative juices are primed and eager to dig in, all the while my heart sighs at knowing it may be another 2 years before I get to see the whole family again.

I have new resolve to finish my novel and can see myself querying and writing up a proposal. For me that's significant since just entering a writing contest before gave me goosebumps.

I had a great conversation about my WIP with another FaithWriter (waves hi to Johnna) and she and I may exchange MS's and help each other with some critiques and encouragement. The most encouraging thing she said was that she hadn't read anything like what I was describing (topically) and that it sounded interesting (not interesting like your 5 yr old just handed you a wad of soggy grass, interesting like I want to know more- at least I hope that's how she meant it).

I was also encouraged to hear that Christian Fiction is moving away from the female MC's stuck on the prairies, away from the preachiness, and becoming edgier. I thought, HALLELUJAH! There might be a market for my book after all!

I think it's precisely what I needed to hear and it's given me the boost I needed to dive back in. And. If I remember correctly- I had the same feeling after the last conference I attended (their first). I was brand new to admitting that what I wanted to be was a writer (just out of the literary closet) and here I was told over and over, you are a writer, this is a calling God gives us, now don't just sit there- WRITE!

(sorry for all the exclamations)

So. Now I'm home. Resolved to keep my blog current, resolved to take on my WIP with a hearty appetite, and resolved to keep practicing in the meantime.

The journey continues friends. I hope you'll stick with me, and I hope that soon I'll be posting to say that the first draft is finished.

Thanks to all my FW friends who nudged me to get my blog posts current!

I'm looking forward to the big party when you type "The End"! I came home motivated too, then proceeded to spend entirely too much time on the very thing we were told was a major hindrance to our writing - the evil FACEBOOK! I couldn't stop looking at pictures and chatting with my fellow FW'ers. :)

It was great to meet you Lynn!
