Now that I'm in the serious edit phase of my first-ever novel, I'm actually looking into what it would cost to get a professional edit done of my book. The idea being, they read hundreds (more?) of books a year and they can see plot holes and other errors that my friends might miss but a publisher wouldn't. Cost of your average novel-length book edit? $700-$3000+. So. methinks in addition to raising funds for going to conferences and such- it might not be a bad idea to glean some pennies from freelance work in order to pay for an edit on a book that still, after editing, may fantastically flop.
I did not know you could spend $ like that and still watch your 'baby' end up on your bookshelf (or in your memory stick storage) with no one willing to read it but your dad and your best friend. It's a little tough to swallow. I see now why so many just go to self-publishing, though that's still not on the list for me...yet.
Well. time to stop talking and see what all I can grab. I know of one company that's hiring freelancers so I'm going to apply for that, me and about a zillion others who saw the ad :)
First meeting to discuss content/blog/updates for the website I'll be working on is Saturday. After I offiically start posting & writing things for them, I'll add a link.
That's all for now. I hear babies rattling their cribs overhead (I'm in the basement office). It's been hard to work this week.
Till next time.
